Career Division
The Career Division of the Springfield Fire Department consists of a Chief, Deputy Chief, 4 Captains and 19 Firefighters.
Fire Headquarters is staffed twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week with a minimum manpower of three (3) career personnel on duty at all times.
Response to alarms is complemented by Volunteer Firefighters and recall of off-duty Career Firefighters for certain types of alarms.
In 2008, this department responded to 1596 incidents. By having personnel on-duty at all times response time is reduced. A typical response is usually between 3 and 5 minutes from receipt of the call. The Career Department responds initially with an Engine Company equipped to handle various type incidents.
In addition to State and PEOSHA mandated training all career firefighters are trained in CPR, Confined Space Entry, Hazardous Materials Incidents, 1st Responder State Certified and also we have Certified Emergency Medical Technicians and Certified Fire Inspectors.
All Career personnel with the exception of the Fire Chief and Deputy Chief are members of The New Jersey Firemen's Mutual Benevolent Association Local 57. |
